Coronavirus (Covid-19) and funerals

Currently, there are no known special restrictions regarding funerals in Finland. Gatherings, including funerals, will take place as before the pandemic. However, the instructions related to the handling of corona victims are still valid. Because of this, dressing and saying goodbye to the deceased cannot always take place in the way that is customary in the locality, for example. If the deceased has been placed in a sealed bag by healthcare professionals after death, the funeral home staff must not open the bag. This protects both personnel and relatives. In the case of a coffin burial, the funeral home can also notify the owner of the cemetery.
